September 9, 2025 | Doha, Qatar (The Arabian Wall Street) — Qatar Airways and China Southern Airlines have announced the expansion of their codeshare partnership, which will include an increase in frequencies between Doha and Beijing in time for China’s Golden Week holiday period.
The expansion builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two airlines last year, furthering their shared commitment to enhancing global connectivity for travelers from China.
New codeshare details
Starting October 16, 2025, Qatar Airways will place its code on China Southern’s three weekly direct flights between Beijing Daxing and Doha. Additionally, China Southern will extend its “CZ” code on Qatar Airways-operated flights beyond Doha to 15 destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, including cities like Amman, Athens, Barcelona, Cairo, Dar es Salaam, and Munich.
Expanding global access
Thierry Antinori, Qatar Airways’ Chief Commercial Officer, commented on the partnership: “This expansion ensures every Qatar Airways route to China is accessible to China Southern Airlines’ passengers, offering unrivalled access through Doha to over 170 destinations worldwide. This partnership marks our long-term commitment to the Chinese market and enhances connectivity in time for Golden Week.”
Qatar Airways has also placed its code on China Southern’s flights between Guangzhou and Doha since April 2024, further expanding its reach.
Beijing Daxing and additional routes
China Southern will also extend its code to Qatar Airways-operated flights from Doha to four other Chinese cities: Chengdu Tianfu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, pending approval from the Chinese government.
With this expanded partnership, Qatar Airways, China Southern, and Xiamen Airlines will now offer 64 weekly flights across eight gateways in Greater China, providing increased access for Chinese travelers to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas.
Strategic importance
Han Wensheng, China Southern Airlines President and CEO, stated: “The new Doha services from Beijing Daxing strengthen our international operations alongside our existing services from Guangzhou. Together with Qatar Airways, we are expanding opportunities for Chinese passengers to reach a wider range of destinations globally.”
This expanded codeshare partnership highlights Qatar Airways’ strategic role in enhancing connectivity through Hamad International Airport, named Best Airport in the Middle East by Skytrax in 2025.
