The Sports Boulevard Project is one of the four megaprojects in Riyadh, launched by King Salman Bin Abdulaziz on March 19, 2019. Spanning 135 km, it provides safe, tree-lined paths for pedestrians, cyclists, and horse riders while offering state-of-the-art sports and recreational facilities. The project is supervised by the Sports Boulevard Foundation, chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Salman.
Location and Vision
Located along Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Road, the Sports Boulevard connects Wadi Hanifah in the west with Wadi Al-Sulai in the east. Designed to enhance the quality of life in Riyadh, it positions the city as a global destination where residents and visitors can enjoy active lifestyles and sustainable urban living.
Components of the Project
The Sports Boulevard includes eight unique districts:
- Wadi Hanifah District
- Arts District
- Wadi Al-Yasen District
- Entertainment District
- Athletics District
- Wadi Al-Sulai District
- Eco District
- Sand Sports Park
In total, the project covers 4.4 million mยฒ of green and open spaces, featuring 170,000 trees, more than 50 sports destinations, cultural landmarks, and 2.3 million mยฒ of investment zones.
Goals of the Sports Boulevard
The project is designed with a strong focus on sustainability and health. Its goals include:
- Reducing travel time between districts by 64.8%.
- Using 100% treated irrigation water.
- Increasing per capita green space by 62%.
- Improving air quality by capturing 3.6 million kg of carbon emissions.
- Encouraging sports and recreation through world-class facilities.
Sports Tower
On July 10, 2024, the foundation approved the designs for the Sports Tower. Rising 130 m, it will feature:
- A 98-m climbing wall.
- A 250-m running track.
- Facilities for 30 sports disciplines.
Inspired by Salmani architecture, the tower blends tradition with modernity, creating one of Riyadhโs most iconic landmarks.
Inauguration of the First Phase
On February 26, 2025, the first phase of the Sports Boulevard was inaugurated, covering 83 km and achieving 40% completion. The destinations include:
- Wadi Hanifah (13.4 km): cycling and pedestrian paths, equestrian tracks, rest areas, and the Cycling Bridge linking it to the Promenade.
- Promenade (4 km): cycling lanes, rest stations, green spaces, playgrounds, and retail areas.
- Prince Mohammed Bin Salman & Prince Turki I Roads Intersection: features the Art Tower, a colorful landmark inspired by historic power towers.
- Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University Track (20 km): internal cycling and pedestrian paths.
- Sand Sports Park: southeast of King Khalid Airport, with 45 km of cycling lanes, mountain biking trails, equestrian paths, and the Najdi Rose design.

The Sports Boulevard Project is not only a recreational hub but also a symbol of Saudi Vision 2030โs commitment to sustainable urban development. It integrates sports, culture, arts, and nature into Riyadhโs landscape, creating an environment that enhances public health, investment opportunities, and quality of life.
