UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is set to visit Russia this week for official talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to state news agency WAM. The discussions, scheduled to begin Thursday, aim to strengthen cooperation in key areas such as trade, investment, energy, and broader regional development initiatives.
This diplomatic visit follows a series of high-level discussions between the two nations. The UAE-Russia relationship continues to grow, with bilateral trade reaching $9.5 billion in 2024. Russia’s exports to the UAE largely include gold, diamonds, and refined petroleum, while the UAE imports broadcasting equipment and computers.
Sheikh Mohamed’s last official trip to Russia took place in October 2024, where he attended the BRICS summit in Kazan. This visit also follows a phone call between the two leaders in June, where they discussed efforts to de-escalate conflicts in the Middle East.
A Focus on Economic and Regional Cooperation
The visit will emphasize strengthening economic ties, with both nations seeking to boost collaboration across multiple sectors, including energy, technology, and investment. The leaders are expected to address various regional and international issues that concern both countries, further solidifying their growing partnership.
In addition to economic cooperation, there are plans to discuss joint development initiatives, aimed at enhancing the mutual benefits for both Russia and the UAE.
