During a key meeting in Beijing on Thursday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with visiting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, stressing the importance of China and Britain advocating for true multilateralism and free trade. Xi highlighted that international law can only be effective when all countries adhere to it, with major nations taking the lead. Otherwise, the world risks descending into a state of lawlessness.
Xi further emphasized that China, regardless of its growth and development, will never pose a threat to other nations. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to peaceful development, stating that the country has never initiated a war or occupied any foreign territory.
Expanding China-Britain Cooperation
Xi also called for deeper and more mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Britain in key sectors such as education, healthcare, finance, and services. He pointed out that the essence of economic and trade ties between the two countries lies in mutual benefit and win-win outcomes.
To further enhance their partnership, Xi proposed joint research and industrial transformation in emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, biosciences, new energy, and low-carbon technologies. By collaborating in these innovative areas, both nations aim to achieve common development and prosperity.
Xi’s remarks underline China’s commitment to global peace and its desire to foster stronger international relationships based on shared interests and growth.
