AD Ports Group, through its joint venture Serdal International, has inaugurated a passenger and vehicle ferry service in the Comoros Islands, marking the first time vehicles are transported by ferry in the country. The vessel, named Yameela, can carry up to 190 passengers in air-conditioned comfort and 45 vehicles, providing reliable, safe, and affordable inter-island transport.

The official ceremony on the island of Anjouan was attended by President Azali Assoumani of the Union of the Comoros and UAE Ambassador Jumaa Rashed Al Remeithi, alongside senior officials. The ferry service, managed by AD Ports Group’s Noatum Maritime, aims to enhance connectivity between the islands, linking the Port of Moroni on Grande Comore with Mutsamudu on Anjouan. This route opens greater access to markets, healthcare, education, and tourism, aligning with broader goals for economic development in the region.

Abdulaziz Zayed Al Shamsi, CEO of Serdal International, said: “We are pleased to introduce a safe, dependable public water transportation system to the Comoros. This project harnesses the potential of the island network to support community development and drive economic growth, in line with the directives of our wise leadership.”

The launch of the AD Ports Comoros Ferry service represents a strategic step in expanding maritime trade and commercial operations in emerging markets, particularly across Africa. By improving inter-island connectivity, the service is expected to facilitate trade, enhance tourism opportunities, and strengthen regional integration, while providing the Comorian population with a modern, efficient transport solution.
